Gabriel Beistline, cello
Gabriel Beistline was introduced to the cello at the relatively late age of fifteen. However, he quickly found himself collaborating with some of the most prominent and influential musicians of our time, including Christoph Eschenbach, Yutaka Sado, Yo-Yo Ma, Christopher Hogwood, Kent Nagano, Yakov Kreitzberg and Valery Gergiev. He has toured with orchestras throughout the United States, Germany, Lithuania, Armenia, Russia and Japan. He has also enjoyed countless experiences as a chamber musician, including a treasured experience performing Felix Mendelssohn's String Octet together with acclaimed violin virtuoso Cho Liang-Lin, violist James Dunham of the distinguished Cleveland Quartet, and world-renowned cellist Lynn Harrell for a prestigious concert series commemorating the 200th birthday of the composer. Gabriel has toured and performed extensively as a member of an award-winning trio (violin, cello, piano) and enjoyed exploring a great deal of the piano trio repertoire. Mr. Beistline gained a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory while under the instruction of Yeesun Kim, cellist in the acclaimed Borromeo String Quartet. Gabriel also holds a MM degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music where he studied cello under world-renowned soloist Lynn Harrell. Gabriel currently lives in downtown San Francisco where he maintains a private studio of cello students, and he regularly concertizes with numerous ensembles and orchestras. He also enjoys being a multi-genre performer and is a member of a popular bluegrass band that travels widely! But his “first obsession” is the music of Bach, Brahms and Beethoven. This is Gabriel’s third performance on a Notes for Nourishment concert as well. He was one of the first performers that Donna invited when she started this series in April 2016, and then at the end of that year he returned in a mixed program called “Chamberfest!”
