Lila Powell-Khazoum is a young soprano from Champaign, Illinois, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois. As a student, she sang mezzo-soprano roles including Giunone in Francesco Cavalli’s La Calisto, Madalena in Rigoletto, and Cherubino. Since completing her undergraduate studies, she has participated in Opera Saratoga’s Opera-to- Go program, singing the role of Pinocchio in John Davies’ children’s opera, and she has studied voice intensively, transitioning into soprano repertoire. She sang the title role in Lully’s Armide at the Château de la Voix Academy in France in 2014 and now resides in California, where she does vocal coaching with Zachary Gordin and is beginning her career as a soprano.
