"Flicka!! Concert" --Notes for Nourishment December 4, 2016
Soprano Christabel Nunoo (22) recently obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, from the School of Music, Theatre, & Dance at University of Michigan. From 2004 – 2012, while growing up in Oakland, Christabel played principal clarinet in the Young Musicians Choral Orchestra program and sang in the chorus. Through this program, she had the opportunity to work with many esteemed artists. She has been invited to perform on several occasions with Frederica von Stade and was also featured in a concert with American composer Jake Heggie for San Francisco Performances. She made her solo debut in 2012 with the Oakland East Bay Symphony under the direction of Michael Morgan at the Target Independence Day Celebration at the Craneway Pavilion. She appeared with the OEBS again in June 2013 in A Celebration of the Music of Dave Brubeck performing alongside Frederica von Stade and Dave’s son Chris Brubeck. She has been honored by the Pacific Musical Society and received the Anna Cox Memorial Scholarship, the Eugene Gash Memorial Scholarship, and the Clarence E. Heller Memorial Scholarship as a student with YMCO. Most recently, she again performed with Frederica von Stade in a benefit concert in Soquel. Christabel owes her passion and dedication for the arts to her mother who always pushed her to work hard and find her niche in life.
